Harness Racing New South Wales has continued its commitment to excellence around the state by announcing a group 1 carnival for Wagga from 2020.
The races will be the first at group 1 level in any code in the Riverina and will provide the new Wagga track to open in March with a signature event.
The four races will be restricted to four-year-olds and five-year-olds and split by gender. Horses must be paid up for futurity series, the NSW Breeders Challenge or Bathurst Gold Crown series to be eligible.
“The reason for announcing it now is to allow owners to pay up for the series, so they will be eligible for the races in coming years,” HRNSW chairman Rod Smith said. “We have made a significant investment in a track at Wagga and it needs a feature carnival for everyone to aim at.
