CHARLOTTETOWN, PE – The Melissa Rennie stable was red hot on Saturday afternoon for the first part of a P.E.I. Colt Stakes doubleheader at Red Shores Racetrack and Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park.
The capital oval played host to 12-dashes with eight divisions of Canada's oldest Standardbred Stake, the P.E.I. Colt Stakes.
Windemere Ryan started the action off in his $7,000 P.E.I. Colt Stakes two-year-old pacing colt division with a 1:58.1 victory for driver Adam Merner and trainer Melissa Rennie. High Five Racing of Stanhope holds the ownership papers of the son of Malicious.
The Big Chase gave Rennie and Merner their other P.E.I. Colt Stakes score in 1:57.2 in another rookie colt split for owner JTL Risk Stable of Glace Bay, N.S. Rennie and Merner also found the winner's circle with Chief Exec Officer after being placed first in overnight action for the triple.
Tobins Rebel (Driven by Gilles Barrieau) won the fastest colt division in 1:57.1 while Imalookertoo (Marc Campbell) delivered as the favourite in their $7,000 split.
In two-year-old pacing filly action, Watch Me Dance has the quickest feet as she toured the city track in 1:58 in a $7,300 P.E.I. Colt stakes division. Mark Bradley was in the bike for trainer and co-owner Stephen Quinn and co-owned John Quinn of Charlottetown and Ozzie MacKay of Moncton, N.B.
The other $7,300 P.E.I. Colt Stakes two-year-old pacing filly divisions were won by Saulsbrook Ocean (Dale Spence) in 1:59.1, Bettorthanbobbi (Bradley) in 1:58.4 and Elm Grove Ocean (Walter Cheverie) in 2:00.1.
