CHARLOTTETOWN, PE – Better Be In Love narrowly lost the harness racing duel last week but she will search for those extra inches at the wire this Thursday at Red Shores Racetrack and Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park.
The 12-dash Thursday card has a 6 P.M., opening post time with the $2,300 pacing feature lining up in race 11. After leading the whole mile, Better Be In Love was defeated by a neck last week in a hard fought battle with Temagami Seelster and those two mares will hook up again Thursday.
Jason Hughes will drive Better Be In Love from post 3 for owner-trainer Brendon Mullen of Mount Stewart while Temagami Seelster has post 5 with Brodie MacPhee at the controls for trainer Tom Weatherbie. Southwind Ion drops out of the Open class and gets post 6 with conditioner Jennifer Doyle electing to place David Dowling in the driver's seat.
Post 2 belongs to The Time To Win with Marc Campbell driving the Western Ideal mare, who has been undefeated in two outings from the Bo Ford stable. Peter MacPhee with the Post Time Picks places Better Be In Love in the top spot.
"Better Be In Love almost got there last week just getting nailed late by Temagami Seelster. We think Jason will want to boss it and if he does set up shop on the front end could get the gold in here."
Also in the field are Tell Me Why (To be driven by Corey MacPherson) and Collective Wisdom (Gilles Barrieau). The top trotters hook up in race 8 of the card with Mile Hill Willie the favourite in that Open trot contest. MacPhee will steer Mile Hill Willie from post 4 for trainer Paul Morrison while the horse he co-holds the track record with, Freddie, has the inside post 1 for trainer-driver Marc Campbell. This will be Freddie's first start from post 1 since July of 2019.
