SUMMERSIDE, PE – The two-year-old harness racing crop of 2020 will have their first chance to show what they are made of Wednesday evening in Atlantic Sires Stakes action at Red Shores Summerside during Governor's Plate Week racing.
The 10-dash Wednesday card has a 6 P.M. first race post time featuring the Atlantic Sires Stakes for two-year-old pacing fillies. The program has a pair of $12,620 Atlantic Sires Stakes A-divisions for the rookie fillies in races 6 and 8.
Race 6 will see the debut of Woodmere Stella from post 2 after the Earl Smith trained and driven daughter of Steelhead Hanover qualified in 2:00.4 over Red Shores Charlottetown for the ownership group of Next Generation Stable of Stratford. Kck Girlies is second choice for trainer-driver Mike McGuigan from the first crop of Source Of Pride. Little Miss Ava (To be driven by Myles Heffernan Sr.) has rail control in the field of seven representing the first crop of stallion Hilarious Halo after the filly was a qualifying winner in 2:03.1.
The second $12,620 split lines up in race 8 with The Real McCoy kicking off her campaign from post 4 as the morning line favourite for trainer-driver Marc Campbell and Nova Scotia owners Grayland Farm of Gulf Shore and Robert Sumarah of Halifax. The Source Of Pride lass was a winner in her qualifier in 2:01.4 in Charlottetown. Also in the field is JJ Talisa from the first crop of Hilarious Halo for driver Redmond Doucet and trainer Robert MacLeod.
The filly is the lone horse in the field to already see pari-mutuel action, where she finished second at Inverness Raceway in Nova Scotia in 2:00.3. Vicky Everyday has post 6 for driver Corey MacPherson and trainer Paul Conway of Bonshaw. The filly is from the inaugural crop of Cougar Hall.
The program will also feature a pair of $2,500 Atlantic Sires B-divisions for rookie fillies in races 2 and 4.
