SUMMERSIDE, PE – A two-hole ride was all it took for Soccer Hanover to find the winner's circle in the Victoria Day featured harness racing event on opening day at Red Shores at the Summerside Raceway.
David Dowling was top driver on the day as the Warren Grove reinsman won three races on the program including the $2,600 top class with Soccer Hanover. Dowling opted for a two-hole ride over a sloppy track with a three-second variant, with the Leith Waite trained Soccer Hanover and drafted behind pacesetter Screen Test (Driven by Corey MacPherson) through fractions of 29.4, 1:00.1 and 1:30.1. The stretch drive told the tale in the feature as Soccer Hanover edged up for the win over Screen Test in 2:00 while third place went to Red Magician (Adam Merner).
Dowling's other wins came with Windemerenightlife in 2:03 for trainer Clair Sweet of O'Leary and with Twice As Bright in a 2:03.1 for trainer Elton Millar of Tyne Valley. Millar was top trainer of the day with two victories including the final dash of the day with Heza Workof Art hitting the line first after a front end steer by driver Mike McGuigan in 2:02.3.
