CHARLOTTETOWN, PE – The competition will be brisk but ER Quinn will look to return to his Thursday night throne in the feature harness racing event this week at Red Shores Racetrack and Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park.
The Thursday evening program has 11-dashes on tap with a 6:30 P.M. first race post time. ER Quinn will be saddled with post 6 in the race 10-featured event carrying a $2,400 purse. Gilles Barrieau is back in the race bike for trainer Jeff Holmes and owners Orwell Bay Stable of Orwell after failing to earn a cheque in his latest, the first time that has happened since the pacer relocated East. Hes Marvalous was sharp in his latest outing with a third place finish after a three-week absence from racing for driver Myles Heffernan Sr. He gets post 5 on Thursday evening while rail control belongs to Likely To Win (Driven by Adam Merner) fresh off a second place finish in last Thursday's feature.
Race analyst Les MacIsaac thinks ER Quinn can turn his luck around this week.
"ER Quinn got as close as third last week before packing it in and you know the eight hole was a contributing factor," MacIsaac said. "Since the improved post could provide a much better beginning tonight we could see a return to his Thursday night dominance."
Also in the field is Three Truths (Kenny Arsenault), Harbourlite Jerry (Steven Shepherd) and Perfect Escape (Ron Matheson).
Star Photo will attempt to remain perfect on red soil in the race 6 Open Trot for a $2,400 purse. Jason Hughes will drive the Kevin Gilles trainee from post 7 after winning his first East Coast appearance in 2:03.1 over an off track last week for new owners Robi Hughes, Eric and Blair MacLauchlan and James Perrot. Buckaroo returns to Island racing and will leave from post 1 with Marc Campbell in the bike while fellow Campbell stablemate Freddie leaves from post 7 with Walter Cheverie picking up the catch drive.
