SUMMERSIDE, PE – Trainer Sifroi Melanson came to play from New Brunswick Sunday afternoon at Red Shores at the Summerside Raceway.
Shipping in from Greater Lakeburn, N.B., Melanson sent two harness racing trainees straight to the winner's circle on the Sunday card including a 1:55.4 score in the $2,600 top event with Woodmere Ideal Art. Norris Rogers supplied the winning steer with Woodmere Ideal Art over Red Magician (Driven by Adam Merner) and pacesetter Midnight Matt (Jason Hughes) who finished third. The Ultimate Stable of Greater Lakeburn holds the ownership papers of the four-year-old son of Articulator.
Melanson's other victory came with Ultimatelyhandsome in 1:56.4 for driver Kyle Mason in race 9 for a $1,900 purse also owned by the Ultimate Stable.
Driver Corey MacPherson capped off an excellent weekend on the track on Sunday to give him 10 wins total between Saturday at Red Shores Charlottetown and Sunday in Summerside. MacPherson hit the wire first in five of 12 races on the Sunday card including a 1:55.4 new career record for Dangle Ona Dime in the $2,300 back-up pace for trainer Duane MacEachern of Summerside.
MacPherson also came first with Ramset (1:58.1) for Elton Millar of Tyne Valley, Sharks Play (2:00.4) for trainer Barry Biggar of Summerside, Adventure Luck (1:58.3) from the Robert Williams Stable of Ellerslie and with Badlands Giovanna (1:59) for trainer Jaycob Sweet of O'Leary. The five win day by MacPherson propels the Cornwall driver into second place amongst drivers in Prince County.
Sendmeasign scored a mild upset in the race 5 Bill and Doris Companion Memorial pace as owner-trainer Alex Sobey steered the mare to a 1:59.1 victory.
Trainer Jeff Wallace of Alberton had two wins on the card as Varadero Hanover (Ken Murphy) delivered in 1:57 and Coasttocoastshark (Murphy) was a winner in 1:57.4.
