At Wolvega (Netherlands) this day was the Gr. II UET Masters Series’ Prix des Geants (purse 66,000€, 2100 meters autostart, nine starters). The 2.38/1 odds Antonio Tabac (6g Crazed-Grace Tabac-Tap In) scored again, now six in a row, in his usual gate to wire fashion for owner/trainer/driver Oskar Kylin Blom. Race time was 1.12.7kr.
Antonio now has earned 259,486€, most for Oskar, the result of an 8-2-0-1-1 slate in the 12 starts under Oskar’s management. Antonio “found his Oskar” and took a 1.10.2kr record on June 21 and came back impressively in 1.11.1kr on September 29. Prior to current management the winner was only 5 for 67 under the legendary trainer Stig H. Johansson.
The 121/1 Panoramic (8g Scarlet Knight-Cartolina Spin) rallied late to be second for Robin Bakker and trainer H.A.J. Grift. 3.8/1 Up And Quick (10m Buvetier d’Aunou-Fichtre) was a game third for Wim Paal, trainer Antoine Lherete and Ecurie Quick Star.
This former Prix d’Amerique winner and third in the 2018 Yonkers International, made an aggressive rush for lead at the halfway mark, could not repel Antonio, took back to third and tried again in the final turn, ending third. 53/1 Banker Transs R (10g Revenue) was fourth for Jaap Van Rijn. BBS Sugarlight at 23/1 and even money favorite Billie de Montfort were miscue dq’s.
The pedigree of Antonio Tabac is interesting and gives rise to his gray coloring. His dam Grace Tabac is by the gray Tap In (Armbro Goal) and her maternal family includes Ata Star L, Speedy Spin, Frances Nibs and Speed King (Volomite). Grace won 13 times in 79 starts.
