Buenos Aires, Argentina.- At the Dr. Hernan Ayerza Hippodrome in the city of Hurlingham, the fourth edition of the Breeders Cup was held for two-year-olds on Sunday. It is the competition with the biggest prize in all of Argentina for the best two-year-olds.
Both the males and the females had no surprises as the best of the year and anticipated favorites sealed their victory with a great force.
Gora Look Marquina and driver Andres Galnares took the lead from the start and had little trouble posting his victory over serveral contenders. Finishing second was stablemate, Gora Look Alteza. The mile race went in 1'12''6.
Gora Look Marquina and Galnares held the field at bay, leading by three to four lengths the entire race, then pulling away in the stretch to win in a romp by seven open lengths.
Meanwhile the best foal of the year, defender of the stud El Fede, Chucaro Art Surco, raised the applause of the tribune by also winning from start to finisrh with Federico Bencardini in the sulky, beating Gora Look Veloz and Gora Look Vikingo in 1'11''7 for the 1609 meters race.
Chucaro Art Surco was pressured first-over from the half mile through to the top of the stretch and then drew off to win by three lengths.
With both victories the best filly and the best colt of 2016 close out a spectacular year, but we must remember that there is still to know who will be the National Champion Producer when they both face each other in the grand final at Navarro's Hippodrome next December 18.
For now everyone has his throne and we will have to define who will be the king or if we will have a queen in 2016.
