Superfast Maggie, a three-year-old trotting filly trained by Henriette Westrum, provided sire Superfast Stuart his first winner when she won easily for driver Jamie Keast at the Timaru harness racing club meeting yesterday.
Superfast Stuart won 15 races and ran 31 places in 128 raceday starts in America. He earned $279,347 in his career and clocked a time of 1:54.2
Michael Heenan from Trouble Lodge Stud imported Superfast Stuart 5 years ago after becoming interested in his sire Kadabra.
“Superfast Stuart was a very good racehorse, but it was his breeding that really got me.” said Heenan
“I started reading about his sire Kadabra, and became very fascinated in him.”
“He was an absolute champion racehorse who has gone on to be a champion sire.”
As a racehorse, Kadabra enjoyed incredible success, winning 25 of 36 lifetime starts for earnings in excess of $2.1 million. His wins included the Canadian Trotting Classic and the Breeders Crown. But, he missed out on racing in The Hambletonian through a missed payment.
His progeny include World-beating trotter Bee A Magician (1:51) who won 45 races and over 4million in stakes before being retired early last year.
Superfast Stuart’s dam, Great Expectations (Garland Lobell) was also no slouch notching up 10 wins and $209,824.
Yesterday Superfast Maggie gave nothing else a chance by leading all the way and winning well in a 2-03.4 mile rate. The speedy filly trotted her last 800m in 59.0 seconds and beat the Nicole Harris trained Grand Princess by a length at the line.
