Proud Southlander Daniel Fletcher is the latest winner of the New Zealand TAB and Harnesslink's fixed odds harness racing betting competition. Readers were asked to name the most successful driver, sire, and trainer at the Auckland Trotting Club's meeting at Alexandra Park last Friday (August 31, 2012).
They were Ricky May and. Nine trainers won the nine different races on the card.
Fletcher's name was drawn out of the hat by Harnesslink editor Duane Ranger.
As a result the 37-year-old now has won a $200 fixed odds bet on the Maurice Holmes Vase at Addington Raceway tomorrow night (Friday September 7).
He has opted to spend his $200 with a $100 each way bet on number two- Franco Ledger, who will be driven by his trainer, Hamish Hunter.
The TAB's Wellington-based harness racing bookmaker, Steve Richardson, has offered Fletcher odds of $7.50 and $3. That's generous considering Franco Ledger has opened up paying $6.50 to win and has now firmed into $6.
Fletcher, who these days works at Placemakers in Oamaru, originates from Gore in Southland.
He is a keen punter and plays bowls. He also enjoys cricket and reading Harnesslink.
Good luck Daniel - Bowl em over mate!
Incidentally the winner of the Maurice Holmes Vase will gain automatic entry into the New Zealand Cup at Addington Raceway on November 13.
