Hoosier Park Racing & Casino will host the second round of the guaranteed $5,000 Pick 4 Wednesday, May 25. The harness racing promotion is part of the U. S. Trotting Association's Strategic Wagering program, which now includes specialty wagers at 10 racetracks across the United States.
The $5,000 Pick 4 kicked off Wednesday, May 18 with a warm reception from racing enthusiasts. The total pool for the wager pulled in $10,398.14. A total of 54 winning tickets were sold, paying a reward of $151.00. The Kentucky Hub had the most winning tickets for the Pick 4 with 13 of the 54 sold through that system.
The guaranteed $5,000 Pick 4 wager will be held four consecutive Wednesdays through June 8. The wager is available on races three through six on the program at Hoosier Park, which begins at 5:30 p.m. EST.
Hoosier Park is also teaming up with the Indiana Standardbred Association and the U.S. Trotting Association on an inflated Superfecta wager for the 18th edition of the $200,000 Dan Patch Invitational Saturday, May 28. The race, which always attracts some of the nation’s best older pacers, will feature a $20,000 guaranteed Superfecta on the event. The Dan Patch race will be slated as the 12th race on the 14-race program with an approximate post time of 9:30 p.m. EST. The first race of the night will go to post at 5:30 p.m. and the card will also include several divisions of the Indiana Sires Stakes, pushing purses for the night well over the $500,000 mark.
Expected to start in this year’s Dan Patch Invitational is the phenom St Elmo Hero. The five-year-old gelding took the harness racing world by storm last year, winning all 19 of his races. The Indiana-sired son ofreturned to the track this season, extending his undefeated streak to 25 before getting nipped at the wire by a nose at Woodbine in mid April. St Elmo Hero now has 26 career wins in 29 career starts and his quickest time of 1:49.1 was taken earlier this year at The Meadowlands in the $65,000 Complex Final.
Joining St Elmo Hero on the list of potential starters includes Won The West, 2008 winner of the Dan Patch, Lisagain, River Shark,, Schoolkids, Foreign Officer, , and Golden Receiver. Also a likely starter is Hoosier Park’s own Allthatgltrsisgold, who is a perfect three for three over the Anderson, Ind. track this year.
