'Man of the Moment' Chris Alford was full of praise for Triumphant Monarch after winning the Crazed Group One Breeders Crown $100,000 Trot Final for 3yos on harness racing's 'Super Sunday' at Melton's Tabcorp Park today ( August 19).

Given a lovely trip three back the marks from inside the second row, with Rosalia Bay scorching out from gate five to lead, before handing over to Aldebaran Shades, Triumphant Monarch was always travelling sweetly.

With the hot favourite Cyclone U Bolt moving to face the open mid-race, Chris Lang (Jnr) put the foot to the floor at the bell, making the favourite exaust plenty of petrol.

Extricated three wide at the straight entrance, Triumphant Monarch finished with a wet sail to score a ruinaway victory in 2-00.5 over Amore Stride (one/one) and Cyclone U Bolt who's run had ended as the winning post loomed.

Chris Alford was reluctant to compare the Monarchy/Aspiring Gal gelding with his quality entire of last season Down Under Muscles, but suggested that Truimphant Monarch was almost equal with him.

"She has improved with every run" that's what Christchurch owner Shane Kirwan had to say when Miss Moonlite, a daughter of Christian Cullen and Dancingonmoonlight snared the Bettor's Delight Group One Breeders Crown $100,000 Final for 4yo pacing mares in a rate of 1-56.3.

Trained by Andrew Stuart at Rangiora and driven by John Caldow, Miss Moonlite improved vastly on her previous runs at Melbourne's harness headquarters and after settling mid-field in the moving line from gate four on the second line, gained a lovely ride home in the last lap on the back of her co-country trained Victors Delight three wide in the final circuit.

Despite being right off the track on the final bend, Miss Moonlite rattled to the wire ahead of Victors Delight who was gallant in defeat, with the red-hot favourite Bellas Delight a game third after racing parked.

Sydneysider Tiger Tina was most disappointing after leading.
