Even those who dared call him ‘a powder puff champion’ were forced to eat their words when West Australian harness racing star Im Themightyquinn won his third TAB.COM.AU Inter Dominion in succession at Tabcorp Park Menangle today.
In a race packed with champions, Gary Hall junior drove the son ofto absolute perfection, bringing the well-backed equal-favourite from last with a barnstorming finish in the straight to beat Mah Sish, who tried valiantly to lead almost all the way, with Excel Stride third.
I'm Themightyquinn rated 1:58.1 for his last mile in a race that saw the other equal-favourite, Terror To Love, race without cover before wilting slightly in the straight to finish a close fourth.
Trainer Gary Hall senior and reinsman Gary Hall junior only wanted to pay tribute to their champion, who is unbeaten in nine Inter Dominion heats and finals.
"Dad and the horse are absolute superstars," Gary Hall junior said.
"They just know how to do the right thing on night or day.
"Dad had him peaking at the right time.
"It wasn't a great deal of concern when we were last, even though there were a lot of rumps in front of us.
"There was no better feeling than getting to the outside and going past Terror To Love and Mah Sish."
Trainer Gary Hall snr said: "This is a great thrill for me and it has taken the ‘pretender' tag off Quinny once and for all.
"I'd like to dedicate this race to two people in particular.
"I'd like to thank Daniel Jack for always looking after me when we come away. He always been there for me. And I'd like to thank Gary for another superb drive.
"Oh, and thanks to those Melbourne media blokes who helped us get $7 about him."
Hall snr confirmed I'm Themightyquinn would go straight to the Auckland Cup next week, where he's already drawn barrier eight.
