Australasia’s best pacer, Im Themightyquinn will make a return to racing this Friday night in the Brear & Doonan Members Sprint at Gloucester Park and has drawn barrier one.
The speedy Sneakyn Down Under has drawn barrier two, while the rising star of WA harness racing, Im Victorious will be the only horse on the back line. Although possessing blistering gate speed, Im Themightyquinn was crossed by Sneakyn Down under last time he drew the pole, with his driver Gary Hall Jr. opting to take cover, although that was over the 2130 metre trip of the Winter Cup, rather than the short course of 1730 metres of Friday night’s event.
Justin Prentice, the driver of Im Victorious, will get to weigh up his options early and follow through whoever looks like taking the front from his second line draw.
The main aim of Im Themightyquinn, the three-time Inter Dominion Champion, will be the New Zealand Cup on 8 November at Addington Raceway in Christchurch and will kick off his campaign at Gloucester Park on Friday night.
The $4.3 Million earner has had to overcome a setback when he was bitten by what was thought to be a spider and it looked like his immediate racing career was put on hold, however he has made quick recovery to be in line for a start on Friday night.
“I wanted to give him a couple of starts before heading to New Zealand” said his trainer Gary Hall Sr.
“He has been working sensationally and I have decided to start him a week earlier than first planned and he will back up the following week before heading to New Zealand.
“He will start in the Kaikoura Cup and should be peaking for the New Zealand Cup” added the champion mentor.
The Sky Racing WA Derby and Lancaster Park Golden Nugget winner, Im Victorious has returned to racing in brilliant fashion and his trainer Michael Brennan is also planning a Group One mission East with a campaign in Victoria, culminating in the Victoria Cup.
“He’s in that grade now where we have to take on the best and ‘Quinny’ is the best” said Brennan.
“Their clash is great for racing and I’m really looking forward to it” he added.
Brennan knows better than most what a champion horse Im Themightyquinn is, working as Hall’s foreman prior to opening his own training complex in 2012.
