Even though his 1,000th career driving was hit on the track at the Skowhegan Fairgrounds one day earlier, harness racing driver Kevin Switzer, Jr. was celebrated with a plaque commemorating the milestone at Scarborough Downs on Sunday (August 19), the very track where he earned the bulk of those wins.
An enthusiastic crowd cheered for “The Kid” as he accepted it.
“I’m exhausted,” joked Switzer in the Scarborough Downs Winner’s Circle, where a large group of his friends, family and fans joined him to celebrate. “I want to thank all who helped me get to this point; I couldn’t have done it without the support of everyone around me.”
It was only four short years ago that Switzer, Jr. was the Downs’ Freeman Parker Award recipient, an award presented to the track’s “Up-and-Coming Driver.”
