Spain’s Maria Francisca Sureda Barcelo has became the new European Champion in the harness racing Ladies European amateur drivers championship organised by the flag of FEGAT in the race tracks on Riksun Ravit and Jokimaa in the cities of Riihimaki and Lahti in Finland.
The competition has been celebrated in four legs, two in each race track were 13 sportswomen have been compited in a fairly and competitive championship were the lucky winners have been the drivers from Finland Sari Pääaho and Austria Gundula Bauer in Riihimaki and Holland’s Hiltje Tjalsma and Spain’s Maria Francisca Sureda Barcelo in Lahti.
With a close results, Spanish Maria Francisca Sureda Barcelo with 45 points got the gold medal obtained with a second and fourth place in the first leg of the competition, fifth place in the third race and a narrow victory in the closing race with horse “Mountain Clever” for Mitja Nummenmaa ́s Stable.
The Podium have been completed with Holland’s Hiltje Tjalsma with 44 points and young Norwegian Amanda Robertsen with 30 points.
Next FEGAT competition will be the biannal World Championship what this year will be held in the Hungarian Race Track of Kincsem Park from August 31st to September 4th.
FEGAT Board wants to express their appreciation for the effort and help obtained from the Finnish amateurs and owners association “SHKL” during the organization and celebration of this anual championship.
