With Labor Day here the richest night in Illinois harness racing can’t be far behind . . . and it’s not.
Super Night 2005 is a week from Saturday (September 17) at Balmoral Park. Eliminations for eight ICF Championships with $1.4 million (estimated) in purses will be held this week at our sister track.
The Dan Patch for state-bred pacing colts and geldings age three and up is on Thursday’s Balmoral card, along with the elims of the Ann Vonian stake for fillies and mares of the same age group.
Parklane Powerful will be in action trying to make it three consecutive Ann Vonian championships, while Taser Gun is out to defend his Dan Patch crown.
On Saturday (September 10) most of the 12-race card will be Super Night eliminations.
For 2-Year-Olds it’s the Orange and Blue Colt and Filly eliminations. For second season Illinois breds there are in eliminations for the Pete Langley Memorial for pacing colts and the Grandma Ann for Illinois bred pacing fillies.
If eliminations are needed for the 3-Year-Old trotting stakes—The Su Mac Lad (colts) and The Lady Ann Reed (fillies)—they’ll be raced this upcoming Sunday night.
For most fans Super Night is “Party Time.”
Again this year there are two parties available, the Budweiser First Turn Party, and Tony Maurello’s Annual Super Night Stars Gala.
Tickets are still obtainable and they can be ordered online at www.balmoralpark.com.
Both parties feature All-You-Can-Eat Buffets, with live music and a special Super Night Souvenir T-Shirt. You can also call 708-672-1414 for more details.
