Ireland- A number of fifty-two horses have nominated for the Vincent Delaney Memorial race giving it the largest amount of nominations for any stakes race in Ireland or the UK. Nominations have come in from across Britain and Ireland.
It will be a weekend to remember on Saturdeay, August 9 and Sunday, August 10 as the interest in the race has skyrocketed largely to do with the lucrative prize fund. This is another record-breaking figure with a total purse for the series of €25,750 ($42,204 US) making it the richest ever race stakes series for any age horse in the history of harness racing in UK and Ireland.
Preparation races are scheduled to take place before the race day to allow the youngsters some racing experience. It also gives nominees a chance at winning some added prize money with €1,200 going to the winner of each of these races. For the punter it will give them an insight into what horses to look out for at the main event.
The day will take place at Portmarnock Raceway, Dublin. Heats will be run on the Saturday to determine the runners for the final the following day. The overall winner of the series will receive €12,000 ($20,000 US). The weekend will also host the Oakwood Stud 3 Year Old Derby (total purse €5,000), the Paul Murtagh Senior 4 Year Old (total purse €7,000) and the Elvin & Delaney FFA Trot (total purse €2,500).
