3-year-old Virginia Breeders eliminations

Driver Chris Page and trainer Roland Dunavant, Jr. teamed up to win two of the six 3-year-old Virginia Breeders eliminations or preps contested Saturday afternoon at Colonial Downs. Katherine Ann Smith's Covergirlpattyann led throughout the first 3-year-old filly pace elimination to give Page and Dunavant their first elimination victory in race one.

Covergirlpattyann covered the mile in 1:54 to prevail by a length over 3-5 favorite One More Hug, who just edged Major Trap.

Covergirlpattyann set a new lifetime mark Saturday and the 3-year-old Firm Belief filly picked up her sixth lifetime win from 29 starts.

Page and Dunavant completed a sweep of the early double with Kola Kat in the 3-year-old filly trot prep. Koala Kat also led gate to wire to score her second straight win. The Cr Commando filly finished 1 ¼ lengths clear of Pretty May Flowers after a mile in 1:55.1. Aerobic Linda rallied to get third, another 9 ½ lengths back.

Koala Kat notched her fourth lifetime victory for owner Jane P. Dunavant.

Four Starz Horndog dominated the faster 3-year-old filly pace elimination, winning by 2 ½ lengths in 1:53.1. The Four Starzzz Shark filly led throughout as the 1-5 favorite.

Minnesota Mary edged Southern Blue for third.

Four Starz Horndog pickedup her seventh win from just 12 lifetime starts for trainer Erik Schulman and owner Four Starzzzz Stable LLC.

As expected, the 3-year-old colt and gelding pace was the fastest and closest of the preps, with First Rate nosing out 1-5 favorite Boss Outlaw after a thrilling stretch duel.

Boss Outlaw set fast fractions with First Rate saving ground along the rail to the stretch. Boss Outlaw finished strongly but First Rate was flying late to just edge his rival in 1:51.2.

Liteninstrikstwice, First Rate's stablemate, rallied for third.

Liteninstrikstwice set a new lifetime mark with the win. Samuel Beegle trains the Western Hero gelding for owner Ginger Tree Stable LLC.

John F. Swart's Andiron Springs took the fastest 3-year-old colt and gelding trot elimination. Andiron Springs closed powerfully to beat Seven Bends by a length after a mile in 1:55.1. Pacesetter Electric Chicken was third.

Andiron Springs scored his sixth lifetime win from just 18 starts for trainer Gary Cameron II.

Chiselled won the other 3-year-old colt and gelding trot elimination in 2:00.3 for owner Pamela E. Wagner and trainer Manley Brown, Jr. Chiselled finished a length to the best of Brown-trained stablemate Descant with Lukin Amigo another 10 ½ lengths back in third.
