It was a big night for Rick Dane Jr on Saturday at Saratoga Casino and Raceway as the harness racing trainer-driver tallied three big wins on the pacing filled program. Dane's Future Character (Shady Character) prevailed in the Saturday open pace for the second consecutive week as the seven year old showed early speed before parlaying the pocket ride to the 1:54.4 feature win.

The victory in the $16,500 open pace was the second of its kind and the fourth win all told for the Dane trainee in 2011.

Distinct Color (Artiscape) recorded his first local score on Saturday in the $12,500 open two.

Dane again gave his favored pacer a pocket trip before besting the bunch in the stretch for the 1:55 win.

Young pacer Patanio, who just won out of the non-winners of two races lifetime condition last week, beat his aged rivals on Saturday to complete the Dane hat trick.

Pulling off the upset at 9-1, Patanio is now two-for-two since joining Dane’s stable, a barn that was red hot on Saturday at the Spa.

Live racing continues on Sunday at Saratoga. The matinee will begin at 12:45pm.
