WASHINGTON, PA, Feb. 18, 2021 — Rock Candy sat cozy in the pocket, then roared past Macadoodledoo in the lane to capture Thursday's $16,200 Open Handicap Pace at The Meadows.
Macadoodledoo was four wide to reach the early lead in a demanding 26.2 over a "good" surface. That left him vulnerable to Rock Candy, who swung wide through the stretch for harness racing driver Brady Brown to score in 1:52.2, 3/4 lengths better than Carolina Beach. Windsong Leo was a ground-saving third.
Paul Corey trains Rock Candy, who extended his lifetime bankroll to $451,042, for Kenneth Ashba.
Ronnie Wrenn, Jr. enjoyed an outstanding Thursday with five victories, including three for trainer Ron Burke.
Live racing at The Meadows continues Friday when the 13-race program features a $15,771 carryover in the final-race Super Hi-5 as well as a $1,255.97 carryover in the Pick 5 (race 8). First post is 12:45 PM.
