DOVER, Del. — Shine N Shimmer took the front early and then out battled several challenges on the way to a 1:51.3 triumph I n the $20,000 Mares Open pace on Tuesday, Dec. 8 at Dover Downs.
Reined by perennial meet leader, Corey Callahan, Howard Taylor’s five-year-old daughter of American Ideal-Sheer Hose trained by Doug Lewis held off Valerya (George Dennis) attacking on the outside on the backstretch then a passing lane brush from fast-finishing Fashion Showdown (Ross Wolfenden) in the lane to win by a head in 1:51.3, her second win in her last three starts. Duneside Chella (Marcus Miller) was third. While recording her fourth win in her last six outings and 11th victory of the season Shine N Shimmer brought her seasonal bankroll to $143,785 and $425,569 lifetime.
Girlofyourdreams and Lady Beth won the co-sub-feature $15,000 distaff paces. Montrell Teague guided stakes seasoned Girlofyourdreams home in 1:53.4 to win the first of two divisions. The Bettor’s Delight –JK Majorette sophomo9re owned by The Wiz Kids Stable has four wins in her last six races while earning $63,710. Who Dat Heather (Allan Davis) was runner-up with Sweet Bobbie (Callahan) the third finisher.
A head proved the victory distance as Lady Beth got the win 1:54.3 besting Hardscrabble Tilly in a stretch duel. Lorie and trainer Paul Davis own the three-year-old Kenneth J-Lady Major bay who posted victory #7 this year and won $52,751 in purses. Melanies Sharkette (M.Miller) was the show filly.
George Dennis drove three winners, Allan Davis, Montrell Teague and trainer Robin Callahan had doubles.
Ashes Cash seeks second straight Open
Last week's winner Leigh Raymer, owned and trained Ashes Cash, a winner of three of his previous five races heads a strong harness racing field of eight in the $20,000 Open Handicap trot at Dover Downs on Wednesday, Nov. 9. First post is 4:30 p.m.
Corey Callahan will again be in the bike in the week's top trot. R&H Ventures, a regular at both Pocono Downs and more recently racing in Chester, is now in the Jim King barn with Vic Kirby driving. Mike Casalino's well named Tough Mac with Jonathan Roberts driving leaves from post 8 with Hemi Seelster reined by Brett Miller to his left for Carl Atley, Bob :LeBlanc and Rich Lombardo.
Both Barbara Boese and Joe Skowyra's Prayer Session and Callam Racing's Spunky Jack with Roger Plante have been racing well. LA Express Stable's Pocket Trip steps up after a wire-to-wire win last time out John Ducharme's-homebred Wartech drew the rail and makes his first start since last July.
There are two sub-feature trots. LA Express' Five Towns (Callahan) won last week and two of three in a $12,000 trot meeting E&K Stable and Lois and Earl Walters homebred I'm So Striking (Eddie Dennis) from post 1 wjth Nick McGill and Brian Carsey's Lou Man (Kirby), Eric Foster's fast finishing Stirling Charisma (Tony Morgan) and Charlene Long's Oh No Three O (Jeff Long) heading the opposition.
Delbert Cain and Nanticoke Racing's impressive sophomore Go Byem (Jim Morand) is the one to catch in an $11,500 3,4&5-Year-Old trot.
