The Auckland Trotting Club is boosting regular stakes by 20 per cent across the board as it fulfills its promise to support all sectors of the harness racing industry.

ATC president Kerry Hoggard said he was thrilled the club was able to confirm the increases to stakes at all its non-premier race meetings from March 14 onwards.

The increases will be across the board for all Friday night meetings conducted by the ATC and will cement the club’s stakes as the highest in New Zealand and some of the highest in Australasia.

Under the new stakes structure all Friday night ATC meetings will have a combination of races for stakes of $14,999, $12,000 and $10,000 and probably one conditioned race for $8,000. The stakes will be applicable for both pacing and trotting races.

“We are proud to announce these increases, especially because these are aimed at the mid and lower grade horses,” said Hoggard. “It means those who take the opportunity to race at regular ATC meetings will be racing for the best stakes in New Zealand.”

Hoggard says the increases were part of the ATC plan to put money back into stakes and therefore the pockets of those across all sectors of the industry alongside the club’s recently-announced moves to secure its future through commercial development at Alexandra Park.

“In fact we will revisit them next year when we have more certainty about the commercial development prospects at the Park when further increases are possible,” said Hoggard.
