Unbeaten Aye Aye Matey, owned by Sue Phillips, kept his win streak intact with a smart victory in Monday’s (June 27) third race at Hawthorne.

This race was the first division of the Vickster Series, a one-mile trot for Illinois Conceived and Foaled 2-Year-Olds.

This talented youngster, trained by Jerald Viviani and driven by Tony Morgan covered the mile in 2.03.3 after fractions of 31.2 seconds, 1.01.2, and 1.33.1, duelling with eventual second-place finisher Adam Gram from start to finish.

Favoured Aye Aye Matey paid $5.80 to win.

In the seventh race, Cunning, owned by Philip Rietveld, was able to hold favoured Battleshoe Bridge safe to eke out a head victory in the second division for leg one of the Vickster Series.

It was a gallant effort by both young trotters and neither gave an inch as they neared the wire.

They trotted the mile in 2.02.1, setting fractions of 31.2s, 1.02.2 and 1.34.

Cunning, trained by Roger Welch and driven by Dave Magee paid $11.00 as the third choice in the wagering.

Leg two of the Vickster Series will take place on July 11, leg three on July 24 and the Final will be held on August 5.


he temperature might be blistering but Jenny Sue provided some intense heat of her own winning Monday’s eighth race.

She paid a whopping $121.80 for a $2 wager.
