Wayne Adams can certainly get his racehorses in the right order to win fresh up and his training skills were to the fore yesterday at the Wairio meeting when Lamborne Road won fresh up after being away from the racetrack for ten months.
"He got very crook with a lung infection. We brought him back and he's had two workouts. We were very pleased with his workouts. The only thing we thought today was that ten months off the scene might have been too much at this stage," said Adams.
After initially settling four back on the inside driver Shane Walkinshaw was able to get the gelding off the running line as the early pace opened the field up. He ended up in the one one. When Man I'm Good moved forward with Erin Jaccka with a lap to run Walkinshaw spotted the move and hooked out in front of the two runners that were progressing. At the 400 he pushed off the outside line when Erin Jaccka weakened and made his challenge winning easily by a length and a half from leader Bakari.
He's owned by Stephen and Nicky Keast and Nicky's parents Joe and Rayleen Thompson. He's a full brother to the handy mare Storm Light which won eight races.
"I think he's (Lamborne Road) got two or three more wins in him yet. We just have to place him but he'll be competitive in any field he gets into."
Meanwhile the handy Phil Williamson trained trotter Astral Ruler won his second race in the hands of junior driver Matt Anderson yesterday. He had a half a neck to spare over Spotlight The Valley.
