Premier harness racing is back at harness headquarters with the next three weeks stacked
with Group races at the elite level.
Next Friday 20 March sees five Group races.
There’s the Group One $100,000 PGG Wrightson NZ Breeders Stakes for fillies and mares, the Group Two $40,000 Vero Flying Stakes for three year old pacers, the Group Two $40,000 Resource Recycling Superstars Championship for four and five year old pacers, the Group Two $25,000 Storer Motors NZ
Trotting Oaks for 3 year old trotting fillies and the Group Three $25,000 Lamb & Hayward
Four & Five Year Old Trotting Championship.
It gets even better for the following Friday, the 27 March.
The undoubted highlight is the running of the Group One $200,000 Muscara Standardbreds NZ Derby which will draw the country’s best three year old pacers. Accompanying the pacers Derby is the Group One $80,000 NZ Trotting Derby and the Group One $80,000 Fred Shaw Memorial NZ Trotting
Championship for open trotters
The two year old pacers shoot for glory in the Group Two $40,000 Avon City Ford Welcome Stakes and the race for the open pacers is the Group Three $25,000 Gordon Roxburgh Free-For-All sponsored by the Islington Tavern.
Not only will these fields be filled with star studded standardbreds, the remainder of the card with stakes at a minimum of $20,000, will attract quality horseflesh.
The exhilarating harness action doesn’t end there with the Group One $100,000 Breckon Farms / All Stars Racing Easter Cup scheduled for Easter Saturday, 4 April.
