Adore Me’s strapper Nathan Purdon can now head on his big OE with his mind at peace.
Because the harness racing glamour mare that he knows almost as well as he knows himself, just capped off a near-perfect season with a sensational win in today’s $150,000 4YO Diamond at Cambridge, the first race of the 2014 Harness Jewels meeting.
“I’m going to miss working with her everyday and of course watching her race, but at least I’m going away on a high,” said Purdon Jnr after the race.
“I believe everyone should do an OE if they get the opportunity and now is probably as good of a time to go as any, as I’ll still have a good few years as a Junior when I get back,” he added. So I’m looking forward to getting out there and seeing the world and i'm sure Dad and Nat will take good care of Ruby (Adore Me) for me while I’m away,” he quipped.
Nathan and his older brother Michael will be away for at least six months, however their trip could last up to a year.
“That will depend if we can get jobs over there and if we are still enjoying it after six months,” he advised.
Adore Me worked forward from barrier five to wrestle the lead of Helena Jet in a 27 second first quarter. She was then allowed an easy time before again picking up the pace to dash away and win emphatically in a time of 1:53.9.
Helena Jet was game in second, while The Fascinator and Maloo filled the First4.
“We thought we had her right on top of her game and she didn’t let as down,” said co-trainer-driver Mark Purdon.
Adore Me will now spell before starting her New Zealand Cup preparation.
“I just hope the rest of the day can go as smoothly,” laughed Purdon.
