Champion mare Adore Me made light work of her seven rivals in yesterday’s Premier Mares Championship (Gr2) at Addington.
Given a lovely run in the one-one for the majority of the trip, Adore Me cruised to the front after Here We Go Again took over from Helena Jet down the back straight. She then powered away in the home stretch to win effortlessly by four lenghts.
Here We Go Again kicked on to finish in second, while Flyover raced up the inside to snatch third.
“Dad and I talked about how we thought the race might pan out earlier on in the day and believe it or not we got it exactly right,” said Adore Me’s strapper, Nathan Purdon. “Things just worked out perfectly and she absolutely jogged it in the end,” he added.
Co-owner Paul Kenny was surprised at this ease of Adore Me’s win.
“She hadn’t raced for nearly a month, so I actually thought she was a bit vulnerable tonight,” admitted Kenny. “I definitely didn’t expect her to win like that. She is just a privilege to be involved with.”
Adore Me will return to Addington in a fortnight for the Group One New Zealand Breeders Stakes, before setting her sights on the Ladyship Mile in Sydney.
“I’m not sure if she will have a lead up in Australia before the Ladyship Mile or not,” said Kenny. “That will be left entirely up to Mark & Natalie, but I guess these two races at Addington are good lead-ups for her.”
