While Adore Me will race for stakes of $140,000 at Addington in the Premier mares races over the next fortnight, her co-trainer Mark Purdon is already looking forward to showing her off across the Tasman.
“I'm excited to take her over and show her off to all the Aussies,” exclaimed Purdon. “It’s scary to think what kind of mile time she may be capable of at Menangle,” he enthused.
Adore Me qualified for the $200,000 Ladyship Mile to be run at Menangle on March 3 when winning the Queen Of Hearts at Alexandra Park in December. But, while that is her main short-term target, she has a couple of more than handy lead up races to contend with back home.
The first of them is tonight, where the superstar mare will take on eight rivals in the $40,000 Premier Mares Championship.
“Nathan (Purdon) drove her at the Motukarara workouts last Saturday and was more than happy with her,” said Purdon. “There are no certainties in racing but I’d say she is as close as you’d get,” he added.
In the workout Purdon refers to, Adore Me spaced her rivals by 10 lengths and produced a very slick last quarter of 26.5.
Those who will be looking to lower Adore Me’s colours tonight include Helena Jet, Pemberton Short, and recent New Zealand record breaker, Here We Go Again. However, there chances look very grim.
“We will have Bettor Cover Lover to contend with in the NZ Breeders Stakes on January 31st, so that will definitely make things a bit tougher,” said Purdon.
While another clash between Adore Me and Bettor Cover Lover is sure to create plenty of interest, it is the trans-Tasman battle between Adore Me and Australian superstar Frith that has many foaming at the mouth.
Frith, who is the Australian’s version of our wonder mare, was equally impressive stringing together 12 wins as a three-year-old before undergoing an embryo transplant. She is yet to resume this season, but is likely to clash with Adore Me in the Ladyship Mile, if not in a lead-up beforehand.
Adore Me vs Frith:
Adore Me – 16 starts – 14 wins – 0 thirds $582,976
Group 1 wins: 6
Mile rate: 1-52.4
Frith – 28 starts – 22 wins – 4 seconds – 1 third $619,060
Group 1 wins: 5
Mile rate: 1:55.2
