Adore Me is Sydney bound after she raced away with tonight’s $100,000 Group One Queen Of Hearts, granting her automatic entry into the Ladyship Mile on March 3.
After Bettor Cover Lover was surprisingly crossed at the start by gate-flier Spirit And Desire, Purdon sent his champion mare forward to the lead, relegating his main danger to three back the pegs in the process.
He then was able to dictate the pace, before letting the hand brake down and racing away to win by 4 & ¾ lenghts.
Bettor Cover Lover, who was shooting for her third straight win in the great race, came home nicely to finish second once in the clear, while Pemberton Shard was game in third.
“She just does everything so effortlessly and she has taken the step up from last season in her stride,” said Purdon post-race. “She really is quite remarkable.”
As mentioned, Purdon is now keen to show his pacing princess off across the Tasman.
“I wouldn’t know what she would run at Menangle so I am excited to get her over there. The Ladyship Mile is definitely her main aim now,” he added.
Adore Me effortlessly paced the 2200 metre journey in a race record time of 2-40.0.
It was Mark Purdon’s third win in the race, after having previously won it with Imagine That and Angela Jane.
Meanwhile, Purdon and Rassmusen also enjoyed wins on the night with Follow The Stars, Aldo Rossi, and All Star Man, while Franco Nelson was victorious in the Kumeu Founders Cup for John Dunn, who had another good night at the office.
*Lulli Midfrew fell rounding the home bend in the Queen Of Hearts but both her and driver Brett Thomas have come through the race relatively unscathed .
