Al's Hammered uncorked a swift 26 3/5 seconds last quarter on a cold Saturday night to pound out his second consecutive victory in the Balmoral Park Invitational ranks.
Regular driver Bobby Smolin, of Bourbonnais, bided his time with the 4-5 public's choice and kept him in seventh, and last, until the top of the lane and when he called on Al's Hammered ($3.80) the four-year-old pacer responded with his strong winning move in the $17,000 ninth race feature.
The 16-1 longshot pacesetter Kanarsis was second in the one minute, 51 3/5 seconds mile, 1 1/2 lengths behind winner, owned and trained by Bob Phillips, of Crete.
