Not long ago the All Stars barn confirmed that they had only one horse aimed at this years Young Gun Series in the form of the Bettors Delight colt More The Better.
However in the last ten days that has all changed with the addition of the smart Art Major colt Pacing Major to the All Stars attack on the Young Guns series.
He was brought out of the 2015 Australasian Classic Yearling sale for $75,000 by legendary thoroughbred trainer Jim Gibbs who took amongst other the longtime All Star clients in Phil and Glenys Kennard into the ownership.
Pacing Major has only had two trials in December and won them both without being asked to really run.
Natalie Rasmussen had done all the work with Pacing Major and convinced Mark Purdon that he was a really smart horse in the making
" Pacing Major is a good horse in the making I feel."
"It was my idea that Mark send him north as I had been doing most of the work with him so I hope he delivers!."
"Mark has been quite impressed with him up there," Natalie said.
Mark had had little to do with Pacing Major prior to this week but has been impressed.
" Pacing Major has certainly done well up here"
" I don't think there is much between him and the little horse (More The Better) now so I think he has a good chance in the heat of the Young Gun Series."
"As Nat notes I hadn't driven him much down home but he has impressed me this week," Mark said.
The second Young Guns heat has drawn a nice field including the winner Vasari and Pacing Major has drawn wide at barrier six but if he has impressed Mark Purdon this week, then Pacing Major immediately becomes the horse to beat tomorrow.
