Star four-year-old mare Amongst Royalty impressed with a show of considerable toughness to win the Be Active Everyday Stakes at Gloucester Park on Friday night.
Driven by her trainer Sam Torre, Amongst Royalty, favourite at 15/8, was trapped wide early before Torre restrained her to the rear.
Amongst Royalty was sixth, three wide, soon after the start before Torre eased her back to eighth. But when he realised he was unable to obtain a position in the one-out line, Torre again urged the mare forward, out three wide.
The daughter of Parsons Den worked hard to get to the breeze 1100m from home. She took a narrow lead from the pacemaker Our Monsieur with 400m to travel and she revealed tremendous fighting qualities to stave off several late challenges.
She won by 2m from Last Left, with a nose to Peripherique. She rated 1.58.3 in notching her 15th victory from 45 starts. The win ended a losing sequence of ten and boosted her earnings for owner-breed Ross Torre to $431,865.
