Stunning yearling colt Ohoka Hall - sold for $127,500 at today's Premier Sale

After a relatively slow start to the New Zealand Premier Yearling Sale in Christchurch today (Wednesday February 20) - Lot 33 Ohoka Hall - sparked up the harness racing sale when a bidding war resulted in the grandson of Landora's Pride ($426,867) selling for $127,500.

Ohoka Hall who was superbly prepared by Mark Fuller and was the only Angus Hall in the Sale.

Angus Hall (USA) 1-54.6 $830,654 had two yearlings in at Karaka, lots 35 and 69, which sold for $26,000 and $42,000 respectively. This gives the brilliant strike rate stallion a sales average of $65,166, a stunning result, especially for a trotting stallion.

Chris Lang trotting stars Sundon's Gift ($1.2million) and Let Me Thru ($453,945) are both close up in the colt's pedigree.

Ohoka Hall was sold on the account of Wai Eyre Stud's Darryl Brown and Katie Carville, hence the ‘Ohoka' name.

"I purchased Ohoka Hall's dam Landora's Special from the north island after she had finished her racing career," said Darryl Brown.

"Ohoka Hall is her second live foal. He has been a beautiful type right from day one."

"I would have been happy with half of that, we only had a reserve of $50,000 on him," He added.

"We are absolutely stoked with the result."

Ohoka Hall was purchased by R A &Mrs D J Smith, the owners of the late Springbank Richard ($664,338).

Brown also has a share in lot 172 a Mach Three full-brother to Fiery Falcon set to go through the ring at approximately 4.30pm.

Ohoka Hall is currently the top lot as of lot 75.
