CHARLOTTETOWN, PE – With a first-over Assault heading to the half Arc Light prevailed in the Maritime Breeder’s harness racing final Saturday evening at Red Shores Racetrack and Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park.
Marc Campbell delivered the winning steer from his own stable in the $22,375 three-year-old filly final named in honour of Ken Starratt with Arc Light in 1:57.1. Therealdeal (Driven By Walter Cheverie) struck the front through the first split of 29.4 then Arc Light came calling to find the front at the half of 59. Three-quarters were reached in 1:28.2 with Arc Light having to dispose of the challenge posed by Woodmere Oleksiak (Gilles Barrieau). Therealdeal rode the pocket to finish second with Woodmere Tango (Clare MacDonald) third. Grayland Farm of Pugwash Nova Scotia holds he ownership papers of the newly minted champion.
Also on the program, Red Dirt Boomer overcame post 8 to win the $18,825 Maritime Breeder’s final Doug Harkness Memorial for three-year-old pacing colts. Barrieau trains and drives the son of Malicious for owner Daniel Ross of Belfast. Time of the mile was 1:57 for the 14-1 upset with Notorious (Campbell) second and Mrs Browns Boy (MacDonald) third.
The $3,100 Preferred pace was won by Euchred in 1:54.2 with trainer David Dowling in the bike for owner Kayla Habicht Walker of Inverness, N.S.
Zero Rate and driver Kenny Arsenault won the weekly Drive For Home series race sponsored by Hillside Chevrolet Buick GMC Cadillac in a mile time of 1:57.3.
