CHARLOTTETOWN, PE – With an Island Breeders Championship win in her rearview mirror, After The Lovin continued the momentum in her Atlantic Sires Stakes consolation Saturday afternoon on the weekend of champions at Red Shores Racetrack and Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park.
Jason Hughes pointed the daughter of Carnivore to the lead in the $5,000 Atlantic Sires Stakes Breeder’s Crown consolation for three-year-old pacing fillies and never looked back through splits of 30, 1:00.1 and 1:29.4 over sloppy conditions. The final panel was unleashed in 29.3 to win by four-and-three-quarter lengths in 1:59.2.
Emilys Angel (Driven By Kenny Arsenault) was second and Pickpocketprincess (Adam Merner) was placed to third. Earl Watts trains After The Lovin for owners River Valley Management of Saint John, N.B., and Windemere Farms of Hampshire.
Tomy Tag guarded the rail in the $5,000 two-year-old pacing colt consolation en route to a 2:02 victory for driver Ken Murphy, trainer Clifford Murphy and owner Noonan Holdings Ltd., of Summerside.
The next two spots were occupied by Egamer (Arsenault) and Windemere Albert (Hughes). The two-year-old pacing filly consolation saw Elm Grove Ocean use first over tactics to win in 2:02.1 for driver Walter Cheverie, trainer Angus Gillis and owner Done For The Day Stable of New Waterford, N.S. Second went to Streakazana (Marc Campbell) with Lorne Valley Barb (Myles Heffernan Sr.) hitting the ticket for third after leaving from post 8.
The final consolation race of the day had Spack Jarrow win the $5,000 three-year-old pacing colt class in 2:00.2 in line to Corey MacPherson for trainer Raymond White and owner Mike Slana of Belfast. A Grand Terror (Barrieau) was second while the $214.10 triactor was completed by Flowersonthebeach (David Dowling).
