Captain Bromac, the full brother to 1:48.4 miler Attorney General, gained his fourth career win when victorious in the Dunedin City Ford Mobile pace at Forbury Park tonight (11 August), after leading for the last 1200m.
, from the United States mare Classic Blue Jeans, was the winner of more than $400,000 worldwide. He was trained in New Zealand first by Ray Norton and then Barry Purdon.
Captain Bromac has been trained throughout his career by Graham Court or the partnership of Graham and Paul Court. He was the winner of three of his first six starts but tonight's was his first for the season.
From the outside alley bar one, Captain Bromac was three wide for much of the early part of the journey before eventually finding the lead. Once in the straight he was never really threatened despite only winning by a length and a quarter.
Ken Barron trains Franco Templar for Peter and Sharon Marshall and they all had reason for cheer when the three-year-old scored his second win from just six starts. He was reined by Canterbury junior driver Chris McDowell and was his third winner.
Franco Templar went from near the outside of the front line, crossed to lead within 400m and stayed there, although outsider Sickle Mond closed very late.
four-year-old Have A Cigar posted his first career win, in the 2700m Forbury Function Centre Pace. Starting from an outside draw, Have A Cigar settled midfield on the outer before making his bid 1800m from home. He eventually made the lead starting the last lap and although inclined to run out in the straight his winning margin was a decisive two lengths.
