Bx Of Life wins BC trot elimination for Older Mares

WILKES-BARRE PA -- Bax Of Life ($3.80) led for one step of her $25,000 elimination of the Older Mare Trot Breeders Crown race Saturday at Mohegan Sun at Pocono Downs, but it was the right one -- the last one, the winning one, as she triumphed in 1:52.4.

The Breeders Crown all-time leading driver, John Campbell had to go first-up with the daughter of Windsong's Legacy after no one challenged 2-1 pacesetter D'Orsay through fractions of 27.3 and 56.2. D'Orsay still had the lead at the 1:24.3 3/4s, but it was a short one, and the top two were virtually inseparable the last eighth, with Bax Of Life proving just a tad more photogenic than her tough rival on the money. The margins from second to third, third to fourth, and fourth to fifth was half a length in each case, with Unefoisdansmavie, Cowgirl Hall, and former Breeders Crown champion Cedar Dove in order just behind the top two.

Campbell, who drove Bax Of Life for trainer Jerry Duford, co-owner with Joanne Wray, said, "She wasn't feeling tired approaching the wire, still trotting on, and I thought I had a good chance to win the photo." You can afford to be a man of few words when you've won three Crown eliminations in the first nine of the weekend at Pocono.
