One of the sires who regularly makes the sires list in both North America and Australasia is the proven son of Western Hanover in Badlands Hanover.
Earning $756,00 in his race career, he took his mark of 1:50 at two at Colonial Downs which as a one turn track had a speed rating 2-3 seconds quicker than anywhere else at the time. So there were doubts about the significance of the time because of where it was taken.
However any doubts about his credentials as a sire have been long put to bed by his outstanding record at stud.
North America - Stakes Won $49,778,000 Winners 525 Sub 1;53 - 97 Sub 1:50 - 10
His winners include such standouts as Tug River Princess, $1,858,219 (1:49:3) Badlands Nitro, $1,605,608 (1:50) Mr Wiggles, $1,195,099 (1:49.1) Delmarvalous $905,691 (1:48.2).
His NZ record is no less significant. To date he has sired 349 winners including the derby winner Badlands Bute $311,000 along with such talented types as Highview Badlands $142,000, Ohoka Rebel $132,000 and Cast Adrift $104,000.
But it is as a sire of fillies/mares that Badlands Hanover has really made his mark as a sire in NZ.
How is this for a list of his super impressive filly/mare winners in NZ.
Nearea Franco $439,000, Beaudine Bad Babe $404,000, Western Dream $328,000, Flying Pocketlands $255,000, Natal Franco $117,000 and Belletti $109,000.
Total stakes earnings for Badlands Hanover are in excess of $8,190,000 which is a great achievement with stake money at the level it is in NZ.
In Australia he has sired 86 winners who have won more than $3,250,000 including the age group star Chariot King $489,000.
Several NZ imports such as Sneakyn Down Under $ 450,000 have kept his name in the spotlight but one import in particular has done an incredible job and that of course is the iron horse, Washakie $1,810,000 1:50. He continues to perform at the highest level long after many of his former age group rivals have since retired
All up worldwide, Badlands Hanover's stock have won in excess of $60,000,000 and he is quickly closing in on 1000 winners.
Overtaken in many breeders eyes by some the high profile imports of the last few years, Badlands Hanovers record shows that at a $ 3,000+gst service fee, he is outstanding value in today's breeding marketplace.
