Bar Hopping 2, 1:56.3; 3, 1:51.4 ($1,292,433), the winner of this year's Breeders Crown, Canadian Trotting Classic, and a heat of the Hambletonian, has been retired to stud duty at Hanover Shoe Farms in Pennsylvania. He is the second new sire for Hanover for the 2017 harness racing breeding season, with the farm already bringing in the pacing colt Betting Line.
"He's passed his fertility tests and he's here at the farm settling in," said Hanover Shoe Farms president and CEO Jim Simpson.
Bar Hopping is a son of Muscle Hill out of the Credit Winner mare Cocktail Hour, who hails from the maternal families of Breeders Crown winner JEF'S Spice and sire-of-sires Garland Lobell.
Trained by Jimmy Takter, Bar Hopping was a New Jersey Sires Stakes winner at age two and then followed by winning major stakes as a 3 year old and earning $1.1 million in purses.
He took his lifetime mark of 1:51.4 in winning the Breeders Crown at the Meadowlands on Oct. 29.
Simpson said he expects Hanover will breed 25-30 mares to Bar Hopping in 2017.
Bar Hopping's stud fee has been set at $6,500.
