Bargins galore at All Aged sale in Christchurch

The second of the annual All Aged harness racing sales was held in Christchurch today (May 29th) and there were bargins galore throughout most of the sale.

A handful of mares attracted the attention of some of the commericial breeders and studs but in the main they were struggling to get anything like the service fee for the stallion that the mares were in foal to.

The two top lots price wise amongst the broodmares both sold for $23,000.

Lot 111 was Delizioso, a full sister to Under Cover Lover who was in foal to the first season sire, A Rocknroll Dance.

Consigned by Graham Pearson who raced Under Cover Lover, Delizioso was purchased by Woodlands Stud.

The other mare to make $23,000 was Lot 135, Shesachristian who won $123,534 on the racetrack and is in foal to Bettors Delight.

Consigned by Trevor Casey, she was knocked down to well known Canterbury breeder Don Bates

Trevor Casey was also the vendor of Lot 127, Pita Pocket who has left three nice winners to date and was in foal to Art Major.

She was also knocked down to Don Bates for $22,000.

The only other mare to make more than ten thousand in the sale ring was Lot 131, Royal Gem who is a grand-daughter of Tandias Courage.

Consigned by Lincoln Farms, Royal Gem was sold in foal to Sir Lincoln and was purchased by Charlie Roberts for $14,000.

Woodlands Stud brought Lot 119, the racewinning mare Kamwood Bluechip for $2,000 with a Tintin In America colt on her and promptly offered the colt for sale later in the day where he made $2600.

Quite a few mares didn't even attract a bid from the gallery which must be really disheartening for the vendors.

When it became the weanlings turn to go through the sales ring, again there was plenty of bargins to be had with a lot of the weanlings making nothing close to their service fee.

The only weanling to make more than $10,000 was Lot 161 which was a half brother by Majestic Son to this season's handy three year old trotter in One Yankee Hall.

The dam Leithe Ellen is a Muscles Yankee half sister to the outstanding squaregaiter The Fiery Ginga so the weanling has plenty going for him breeding wise.

He was consigned by the Williams from Waimate and purchased by Ian Hood of Ashburton.

The second best price was $9300 for Lot 170 which is a Christian Cullen three quarter sister to the brilliant Stunnin Cullin.

Consigned by Paul Renwick of Christchurch, she was purchased by Brent and Sheree McIntyre of Macca Lodge.
