The open trot, the regular Friday night harness racing feature, took a back seat this week at Saratoga Casino and Raceway as the Battle of Saratoga #8 trotting series final was on center stage on a scorching night at the Spa.

Trotting mare Fox Valley Shannon (Vaporize) paid immediate dividends for her new connections on Friday night as she prevailed in the $22,200 final for claiming trotters.

The six year old owned a third place finish and a win in her two races in the series before sitting out the third leg following the claim for trainer Geoff Howles.

Fox Valley Shannon swooped the group in Friday's final as the race's odds-on favorite scored after pulling off a three wide sweep of her rivals.

Dan Cappello Jr was at the controls for the convincing victory as the mare matched her leg two win time with a 1:58.2 score in the final, her fourth win on the season.

Fellow mare Princess Q T Pie (Scott Mongeon) closed for second while CJD's Wishbone (Jay Randall) earned the show spot.

The $18,000 open trot was won by Prime Interest (Self Possessed) as the longtime local trotting standout coasted in the stretch before stopping the timer in 1:56.4 for the meet's leading connections, driver Billy Dobson and trainer Jackie Rousse.
