Beautide

Tasmanian pacer Beautide produced a brilliant performance to win at his first outing in New South Wales when he clinched victory in a heat of the harness racing Winter Pacing Championship Series at Menangle on Saturday night.

Beautide left the state with impeccable form having won five of his previous eight starts including two major cups.

One corporate bookmaker was caught out after he opened Beautide at $16 which was quickly snapped up with some big wagers and many Tasmanian punters who were shrewd enough to know where to look for the fixed odds markets backed the gelding to win at varying prices down to $3.70.

Beautide started at $2.70 and never gave his backers any cause for concern.

The Barrie Rattray-trained gelding had to work three-wide for much of the first half (800m) before driver James Rattray settled him outside of the leader.

When Rattray called on his charge for the supreme effort 200 metres from home he powered his way to an almost seven-metre victory over Satellite Ace with Western badger almost two metre away third.

Beautide produced a personal best mile rate of 1.54.5 at what was his first look at the Menangle track.
