Bertos Angel was heavenly in $10G Open Trot

Bertos Angel, a five-year old Ken Warkentin mare, out of the Incredible Abe mare Spark Of Abbey, won the $10,000 Open Trot in 2:01.2, for harness racing owner, Scott D. Woogen of Mechanicsville,VA, here at Buffalo Raceway Friday night (February 17).

It was the third win this season for Bertos Angel, who has won four out of her last five races.

Bertos Angel ($7.10) leaving from post eight, and driven by reinsman Kevin Cummings, left alertly and settled in third, as Dukecrest (Keith Kash, Jr.) hit the quarter-mile marker in :29.3, and the half in :59. Down the backstretch the second time, Bertos Angel pulled first over, and collared the leader just past the three-quarter pole. At the top of the stretch, Bertos Angel to command, and finished one-length ahead of Perfect Man (Dave McNeight III), at the wire. Tymal Recap (Dan Noble) finished third.

Trained by Lisa Lederhouse, the $5,000 share of the winning purse put Bertos Angel’s season bankroll at $16,200, and $208,250 lifetime.

Racing will resume on Saturday February 18, with first post scheduled for 6:40 pm, Eastern Time. The “Niatross Knockout Series” continues with two semi-final legs on tap. The top four finishers in each leg will go for the $29,000 final next week.
