Harness racing owners Pam and Lindsay Turner would have had mixed emotions as they lined up for the photos in the winners circle last night at Alexandra Park.
Earlier in the week Pam's father Arthur Cross had passed away and last nights win by their talented pacer Mac Tiger would have brightened up what had been a sad time for their friends and family.
Arthur Cross is forever associated with the brilliant Dels Dream ( 14 wins ) who was even more successful in the breeding barn than she was on the track.
For A Reason 1:49.4 ($803,433) Double Dream 1:49.4 ($669,881) Beach Fighter 1:51.8 ($310,152) and Allblack Stride 1:53.2 ($174,078) all have Dels Dream close up in their pedigrees.
It is a breed that Arthur developed and refined over 30 years and its success and longevity is testament to his vision and knowledge.
Of course the Turners have forged their own niche in the trotting industry with their outstanding race mare,Tigerish (15 wins) ($491,957).
Mac Tiger is from this wonderful race mare by Mach Three and last nights win was his fifth to date but this was the first win with the Turners as his trainers.
Looking very promising earlier in his career, Mac Tigers form had tapered right off but the change of environment seems to have worked the oracle.
The Turners are bettor known these days as preparer and vendors at the yearling sales with Mac Tiger being the first horse they trained that they have lined up at the races since 2012.
Last nights win proved they haven't lost their touch when it comes to producing their horses ready to win.
