Bold Eagle took today’s Gr. II Prix Victor Regis at Paris-Vincennes.
Contested over 2700 meters for three year-olds, Bold Eagle got up in the final strides for owner/trainer Jean-Etienne Dubois to score in 1.14.8kr to secure the winners’ share of the €120,000 purse.
Racing on the pegs mid-pack, the winner watched Booster Winner, Bird Parker and Brillantissime (Jos. Verbeeck) exchange leads until Brillantissime, the 1.1/1 favorite took the front heading into the lane. Dubois then eased Bold Eagle (3m Ready Cash-Reethi Rah Jet-Love You) four wide and steadily wore down the leader to score by a neck.
Bold Eagle has won six straight now in 2014 and has eight wins in ten career outings for €144,800 earned. The winners’ dam is from Hippodamia, by Workaholic, she dam of 1:56.1 winner Quai Bourbon (US$260,686). Booster Winner was third today behind Brillantissime, with Black d’Avril (Franck Ouvrie) and Bird Parker (Johan Lebourgeois) ending fourth and fifth.
Fractional times of this race were modest as the field clocked 1.16.1kr with 1000 meters remaining, before speeding home.
The Gr. II monte Prix Camille Lepecq over 2700 meters for €120,000 went to 2.7/1 odds Sourire de Voutre (8g Gazouillis-Goella) with Franck Nivard up for owner/trainer Franck Leblanc.
The 9/10 favorite and classique winner Roxane Griff (Mathieu Abrivard) was well-placed throughout and ended second after drifting wide in the lane. She lacked her usual powerful closing kick today. Uppercut de Marche was third, beaten a neck for second, for Damien Bonne.
The winner recorded his 17th win in 29 starts (also six placing on his card) for earnings of €757,340. The pace was solid and quick for this group with the winner scoring in 1.12.4kr.
