New Zealands leading junior driver Brad Williamson hit a notable personal milestone at Ashburton Raceway yesterday when he drove Dana Dynasty to an impressive victory in the junior drivers event and in doing so brought up win number 100.
Brad started driving in 2012 and had his best season to date in 2014 when he drove 32 winners.
Last season was a real learning curve for Brad as things just didn't go his way.
" I won three or four in the first month but after that it just dried up."
" I wasn't getting that many drives and a lot of the ones i was getting were struggling to be competitive."
" It does affect your confidence a bit and it does effect the way you drive," Brad said.
This season Brad has started really well and carried on at a great rate in the first three months of the season.
With yesterdays win, Brad took this seasons total to 17 which is two more than he achieved for the whole of last season and his best mark of 32 is obviously under big threat.
Brad is pretty sure of the reason for the turnaround this season.
" I am driving a lot more of dads team this season which helps and that has lead to a lot more outside drives."
"Quite a few of dads team are going well at the same time and they haven't finished yet," Brad said.
Brad had no difficulty naming the best horses he had sat behind.
" Irish Whisper is the best trotter i have ever driven while Royal Counsel is the best pacer."
" The most promising horse I am driving at present would be Blazing Under Fire."
" He has high speed and has a few more wins in front of him," Brad said.
Brad has always shown a lot of natural ability in the sulky and this year looks like being his break through year on the driving scene.
