The Alabar New South Wales Breeders Challenge heats for two-year-old's were staged at Parkes last night (Thursday May 26). The winner of the colts & geldings harness racing division was Macca Kelly. He is a son of Matt's Scooter stallion Mach Three, who will stand at Alabar's New Zealand based stud in the coming breeding season.
Macca Kelly is out of 2005/06 NSW Broodmare of the year Miss Paula, a Tompkins Hanover daughter of Rich Sister.
Miss Paula a $100k earner on the track and an absolute broodmare gem has left three horses that have earned in excess of $300k namely Albert Kelly, McRaes Mate and Greg Kelly.
Grand dam Rich Sister also foaled Jay Bee Aitch ($118k) and Mister Paul ($83k). Descendants of the remarkable family include Lorna Kelly ($87k), Alotofwhite ($73k), Jack Hall ($56k) and Jenna McRae ($43k).
Macca Kelly was bred by Dianne Kelly who maintains ownership.
The colt is trained by husband Bernie Kelly and he was driven by Bruce Harpley.
The fillies division was taken out by Dance For Madi, a daughter ofmarvel , who stands at Alabar’s Victorian base.
Dance For Madi is out of Beejaykay, a Tompkins Hanover daughter of Fair Skipper.
She is the 6th foal out of Beejaykay who has done a wonderful job as a broodmare having left Livetolaugh ($249k), Ten To Zero ($63k), Touch Of Toledo ($36k) and Doihaveto ($32k).
Grand dam Fair Skipper also left Skips Daughter a $72k earner.
Dance For Madi was bred by Bruce Harpley, Raymond Ferrario and Peter O’Donnell, she was privately sold to Bruce and Natasha Harpley.
Bruce Harpley also trained and drove Dance For Madi to victory, which capped off an Alabar NSW Breeders Challenge winning double.
Following this week’s major announcement that it had merged with Stallion Station, the stallions of both winners hailed from chief series sponsor Alabar, they now dominate the Alabar NSW Breeders Challenge stallion table with 63% of winners coming from the stud.
The next set of two year old Alabar NSW Breeders Challenge Heats will be conducted at Bathurst on 3 June, Semi Finals will be conducted at Tabcorp Park Menangle on Saturday night, 11 June, with the Finals to be conducted a fortnight later at Tabcorp Park Menangle on Sunday, 26 June.
While the Empire Stallions NSW Breeders Challenge Regional Finals will be conducted at Parkes on 30 July.
