No Hassle (Brent Holland) showed he’s ready to return to the races for the Dave McCaffrey Stable.
The eight-year-old Illinois bred pacer pulled away and won his Maywood Park qualifier a week ago by some 13 1/2 lengths with a 1:58.3 mile raced in front-end fashion. The one-time Super Night champion had been off since mid-January. He’s a starter in Friday night’s tenth race.
The most dominating performance in a local qualifier last week belonged to the trotter Kristy Kreme (Dean Magee). Off since last October, the five-year-old mare literally was all by herself at the end of her qualifier on March 14 at Balmoral Park, finishing an astonishing 19 and one-half lengths over seven foes with a 1:59.2 clocking.
Effective with the Wednesday, March 21 card and every Wednesday program thereafter, Balmoral Park has reduced the take out on its Pick 3 and Pick 5 wagers to a state-low 15 percent. Maywood Park cut back the takeout on its Pick 3 wager on all live racing programs to 15 percent late last year.
Our sister track (Balmoral Park) has posted two enormous Supefecta payoffs of over $17,000 already this month. On Tuesday March 6, there was a $17,571 Super on the fifth race trot won Berto Coquette ($121.00) and eight nights later the Balmoral tote board lit up with a $17.590 payout on the third race Super, keyed by the winner Sporty Jayla ($51.20).
Driver Ryan Anderson and trainer Dave McCaffrey have moved further ahead in the Maywood Park standings. Anderson drove six winners last weekend and is at 44 for the meet, 24 more than Josh Sutton’s 26. Mike Oosting had a driving triple last Friday and is next with 25. McCaffrey posted five training wins on the March 15 and 16 cards. The Iowa native leads the trainer standings 20 to 13 over Jill Arnold.
